Depart Reykjavik heading east, stopping at two iconic waterfalls in sequence. Stay near Vík in the evening to avoid long night driving.

Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach and South Coast Wilderness

Check wind and wave warnings first thing in the morning before heading to the black sand beach. Then travel east along Route 1, moving slowly between tundra, lava landscapes, and small towns.

In Iceland, the route is not a blank space between attractions—it is the most important part of the journey.
